Verizon had 13,000 lay offs last year and is expected to do the same this year. With their land line business shrinking and stiff competition in the wireless market, Verizon faces a tough road ahead. The economy hasn’t helped, but Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg feels 2011 will be the turn around year. Verizon Wireless was the first to drop their unlimited calling plan rate Tuesday, followed by the other 2 big providers, AT&T and Sprint. Verizon now charges $70 for unlimited calling, a drop of 30%. So you bought a new or used cell phone, and a nice one at that - speakers, 3G, multimedia, the works - but now its time to hook it up with a plan for it to be used. Depending on your circumstances, particularly whether or not you already have a plan in order, activating your cell phone may or may not be easy. The first order of business is to make considerations about the carrier you will be using, if you haven’t done so already. In the United States, the four most popular carriers are AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint. For each carrier, there are separate guidelines you’ll need to follow to activate your phone.
