Researcher Aydogan Ozcan, UCLA, has developed a cell phone based microscope. Ozcan plans to test the new microscope this summer in Africa. Cell phones are already being used to monitor patients and transmit records to labs, but this device takes that capability a step further and adds the microscope image-gathering capability directly in the cell phone itself.
