How To Record Your Cell Phone Conversations

Recording a cell phone conversation from a traditional phone is hard enough, and the task is only made worse when attempting to do so from a cell phone. Although some cell phones come with the capability to record calls, those without this feature are extremely difficult to record through. If you are planning to record a cell phone conversation, there are three techniques that you should consider using.

How To Record Your Cell Phone Conversations

Record Directly From Your Phone

  1. Many cell phones possess recording features, but not all of them can recording during calls. The first step in recording directly from your phone is making sure your phone is equipped to do so. If not, you should consider one of the other methods available.
  2. To begin recording, initiate your call. Before you begin talking, be quick to turn on the recording feature of your phone. Make sure you don’t exhaust your cell phone’s recording time limit, which tends to be either 1 or 2 minutes.
  3. End the call, and then be sure to stop recording and save/name the file properly.
Cell Phone Recording Device

Use a Recording Device

  1. First, you will need to purchase the proper equipment to record your cell phone calls. The most popularly used recording device is the Olympia TP-7, which can be found at Amazon.com or other vendors.
  2. For best optimal sound quality, download recording software such as Audacity onto your computer. After installation is complete, connect your recording device into your computer’s in-line jack.
  3. Open your chosen recording software and create a new file. When you begin your call, start the recording by pressing the recording button. End your recording by pressing the stop button and saving it as an audio file, preferably mp3 or WMA, onto your computer.
  4. Another similar alternative is placing your cell on speakerphone and using a digital recorder to record conversations.
Google Voice

Google Voice (Available by Invite)

  1. Google Voice, previously Google Grand Central, is a great service that it is currently only available by invite. Although this online software is not yet public, it is described by reviewers to be great for recording cell phone calls. 2. Basically, Google Voice provides its users with a one-line telephone hub that connects with each of your phones. After re-routing all your phones into the Google Voice system, you can take advantage of recording you cell phone’s calls, in addition to other services like voicemail, call forward, SMS storage, and conference calling.
  3. To record through Google Voice, you can connect your phone to the system and then turn call recording on. At any point in the call, including before or after, you can simply press 4 on your phone to toggle the recording feature. Not only is each recording of top sound quality, they are also saved into your account to be accessed later.
