How to Use Flash and Youtube on Your Cell Phone

As of now, cell phone users of any kind have probably realized that it is difficult to access Flash websites from their cell phone. On many cell phones, however, flash capability when accessing the Internet can be made available if the correct routes are taken. Though cell phone manufacturers may not prepare their phones to use Flash automatically, users can customize their phones to access flash content on Youtube,com,  Hulu,com, and a variety of other flash-based websites.

Here are three ways that you can accomplish using Flash on your cell phone:

Website-specific applications Many websites offer a mobile version of their website that makes their website content accessible on your phone. Some websites remove flash content, but others such as m.youtube.com and others will include flash on their websites accompanied by applications which allow you to access the content directly from your phone. At m.youtube.com, for example, users will download the youtube application and then visit m.youtube.com where they can proceed to select the video of their choice. At Youtube.com, follow these directions to access the website your phone:

  1. After opening the Internet browser on your cell phone, go to m.youtube.com/app. This is the website where the youtube application is located.
  2. After accessing the link, the page will list several instructions regarding the installation of your mobile Youtube application. Follow the instructions to install Youtube mobile.
  3. When the installation is completed, you can now exit your browser. The Youtube icon will be located on your desktop or in the applications section of your phone. To access Youtube, open the application and then visit the videos of your choice.

Flash Player Mobile to Open Flash Files:

  1. If you have pocket-PC type phone, you can access flash content phone’s browser. To do this, you will need to install flash player onto your phone.
  2. Flash Player can be installed from this link: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
  3. After installing the program to you phone, you can use your pocket Internet explorer to access flash-based websites. Adobe supports the application on WM5 and WM2003, but the program should also work on WM6.

Skyfire for full access to Flash-Based websites So far, this seems to be the most accessible form of flash for mobile phones. Skyfire is a free mobile browser for Windows Mobile and Symbian phones that converts flash websites to look similar to that of desktop platforms while still using  your mobile phone. Due to its Flash capabilities, mobile experts have begun to rate Skyfire among the other premium browsers such as Internet Explorer and Opera Mobile. Skyfire can access Flash 10 and Silverlight, allowing you to access virtually any website without the need for additional installations.

  1. To get started, visit skyfire.com to download the Skyfire application download link. If you would just like to access the Skyfire download link directly, here it is: http://get.skyfire.com/
  2. Once  you reach the website, you will need to choose between the following options:
    1. download directly to your phone by visiting http://m.skyfire.com,
    2. send a link to your phone through an SMS message,
    3. or install Skyfire by linking your phone and downloading through your PC

    Skyfire has three different versions: touch-based for Windows Mobile, non-touch-based for Windows Mobile, and Symbian-based. You will have to specify what type of mobile phone you are using.

  3. After downloading the file, you can install the application through either your phone or the PC-based process.
  4. When your complete the installation, you can open the application on your phone. Skyfire should open up with its Start Page, which will include quick access to favorites, history, and popular websites for mobile users. The menu button is on the bottom-right of the page and the zoom button is located  similarly on the bottom-left. You should now find that you can access almost every website from your phone, including Youtube, Hulu, Facebook, Twitter, and other websites through mobile Internet or WiFi.
