3 Old School Mobile Phones; A Look Back at How Far Mobile Phones Have Come

zack morris phone by orangeek

Current technology is constantly making mobile phones smaller,
hotter, more advanced, and even cheaper. It is easy to forget just how far mobile phones have come since the late 1980’s. There are some memories built in to our brains, such as the “Zack Morris Phone” from Saved by the Bell, when it comes to popular phones from a few decades ago. However, it seems it is easy to take for granted the mobile phone options that are abound these days. With that said let’s take a quick jog down memory lane and look back at some of the old school phones that were available when mobile technology was just scratching the surface. Here are three phones that will capture your attention and make you realize just how far mobile phones have come in a few, short years.

Cell Phone Virtual Nanny

In recent years it has become increasingly popular for cell phones to be used for malicious actions like bomb detonators. A group of inmates in a Parisian jail even used their smuggled-in cell phones to successfully coordinate an escape. These actions are scary and worrisome at best, so I decided to develop some new, more positive uses for cell phones. Read on to see all those things your little, unassuming cell phone may be able to do for you in the future!

Cell Phone Obsession Begins at Birth

Cell Phone Obsession

I recently worked at a preschool and also did student teaching in a forth-grade classroom. Obsession with cell phones is a common theme ranging from the two-year-olds to the ten-year-olds. In the preschool, the children love to play with the old, 9″ long phones (probably some of the first cell phones ever made). They fight over these phones! The pretend to make calls, and even pose with the phones, trying to look “cool.” Read the rest of this entry »

Cellphone Pictures: Now Available Fuzz-Free

Cell Phone Tower

Most phones nowadays come with a generic camera that allows you to spontaneously capture your surroundings with that certain fuzzy quality many of us cellphone camera clickers have come to (unfortunately) know. But now, thanks to Brando’s Generic Mobile Telescope, the days of the blurry cellphone picture may be over.

How Cell Phones Work

Being a person who has never taken a physics class; has no idea about engineering; and barely knows anything about electricity, I am constantly in awe of modern amenities. I still view T.V. Remote controls as amazing, “magical devices.”

Charging your Cell Phone on Vacation

Sunny Vacation photo credit: lecates

Lately I’ve noticed that whenever I’m on vacation I seem to forget all my responsibilities and live completely and irresponsibly in the moment. This holds true for everything ranging from taking my vitamins to checking email. It is also true for charging my cell phone.

In the past, I (and I’m sure countless other people), used the excuse “my cell phone died” to get out of many things, such as:

  • talking to people I don’t like
  • filling in for someone at work
  • talking to people while I’m busy doing other things
  • talking to the guy from the other night who I “accidentally” gave my real number to ;)

Hands Free… Not As Safe As You May Think

Hands Free Cell Phone photo credit: dainsandoval

On my way home from work today, I opted to switch from music to NPR (National Public Radio). I do this from time to time to check up on news, and to see if there is an interesting topic being discussed. Today’s topic was about traffic. I paid particular attention to the portion about talking on a cell phone while driving. Read the rest of this entry »

You Talk, You Drive… You Pay

Cop Cell Phone

While driving to work today I paid particular attention to the people in the cars around me. Lucky for me I had ample time to do so, as traffic was pretty terrible. Anyhow, I noticed something quite peculiar about the other drivers. The majority of them were talking on their cell phones while driving!
