In the past, I (and I’m sure countless other people), used the excuse “my cell phone died” to get out of many things, such as:
- talking to people I don’t like
- filling in for someone at work
- talking to people while I’m busy doing other things
- talking to the guy from the other night who I “accidentally” gave my real number to
You see, saying “my cell phone was dead” was such a wonderful excuse! Not only did it get me out of situations, but it also gave me reason for not checking messages or calling people back because who knows when I was able to charge my phone!
This excuse is becoming less and less feasible. There are so many new batteries and chargers on the market! I just heard that a 65-year-old man cycled through Nova Scotia on his way to the Green Party Convention. All he had with him was a tent, cooking gear, and a solar panel that generated enough energy to keep his cell phone battery charged.
“If he can still have a working cell phone after all that then I’m totally out of excuses!!!”
Well even though I can’t use my cell phone dying as an excuse much anymore I suppose it’s comforting to know that my cell phone will actually work if I need it to!
