Android 2.2 – Who gets it first?

Which Verizon phone will get the Android 2.2 operating system first? The just released Droid X was supposed to get the upgrade by the end of July, but as a Droid X owner, I have not seen the upgrade yet. The new Droid 2, being released sometime this month, is slated to come with the new Android 2.2 operating system.

Android 2.2 – Who gets it first?

Google’s next-gen mobile OS adds a number of business-friendly features. Security is greatly improved. Microsoft Exchange administrators can remotely wipe stolen or lost Android 2.2 phones. If you’re running Exchange 2007 or newer, you can quickly set up and sync an Exchange account with just your user name and password. Android 2.2’s Calendar app supports Exchange calendars, and email users can auto-complete recipient names from their corporate directory.

Flash 10.1 is supported on the new Android 2.2 OS. Having trouble viewing flash on your current Droid phone? The new OS will support Flash 10.1 and take care of that nasty glitch. Android 2.2 also has better Cloud integration. User can back up their data to a cloud and download it to another device easily.

Look out iPhone and BlackBerry! The new Android 2.2 system is some stiff competition. With BlackBerry’s soon to be released 9800, this direct competition from the Droid market may be more than RIM can handle. According to Nielsen polls, some 12 million BlackBerry users are considering switching to either the new Droid or the iPhone. With the iPhone still locked into AT&T, Verizon’s Droid is looking better and better. Do you have a BlackBerry? Are you envious of the Droid or the iPhone? Getting ready to switch? Or are you loyal to the BlackBerry?
