Your cell phone battery gets drained when constantly searching for connection signals. The solution is simple, free and easy to use. Whenever you are going to be in a “dead zone” (i.e. parking garage, subway, driving across the Nevada/Utah Salt Flats, etc.) switch your phone to “airplane mode.” This makes the phone quit searching for the signal, thus saving your battery charge in a big way.
Extend Your Cell Phone Battery Charge
Airplane mode, in case you aren’t familiar with the term, is a function on your phone that temporarily kills all the radios in your phone. This makes it safe to use the other functions on your phone while flying. (It only disables the cell phone calling and Bluetooth radio functions.) Since active radios are one of the biggest power drains on a phone, when a phone can’t find a signal it will keep trying to search for one, draining your battery. The airplane mode has the potential to save your battery a lot of juice when in a no-signal area.
There’s only one downside to this simple solution. You have to remember to deactivate the airplane mode when you are ready to receive calls. Now for some that seems like a no brainer. For others, well …
And where do I find this ‘airplane mode’ on my phone?
Depending on the model of your phone, go to the settings, then choose airplane mode.
