Apple announced plans to sell the iPhone4 unlocked and contract free in Canada. What? Here in the States we can’t even get a 2nd service provider to carry the iPhone, let alone unlocked cell phones. Across the pond in the UK you can already get the iPhone4 unlocked.
Canadians get iPhone4 unlocked!
As Americans we seem to be getting the dirty end of the stick. Already we pay more for cell phone service than anywhere else in the world. (See my blog Cell Phones Are Sweeping the World Technology Race.) With this, we don’t even get open coverage. How unfair is all of this? How can we fix it? Should we protest by ending our cell phone service contracts and going to prepaid phones (yeah, right)? How can we make an effective statement of our displeasure? Or are we so spoiled that we don’t care what it costs?
