Cell phone distraction affects walking as much as driving. Apparently a study by the University of Illinois found that talking on a cell phone while crossing the street leads to accidents. Duh!
Walk and Chew Gum?
Many people can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. Some people are unaware of their surroundings more than 3 feet from their bodies. Is it any wonder that these same people get hit by cars or cause accidents while talking on a cell phone and crossing the street? Some idiots even try to text while walking…
Mr. Magoo, where are you? I had a friend in college who refused to wear her (much needed) glasses because of vanity. Her eyes had been itching so her contacts were out as well. She literally walked blindly into an open man-hole in New York City. She would have been doubly challenged if talking on a phone at the same time. Luckily she wouldn’t have been able to see the phone screen to do texting.
Shall we create new laws about walking and talking? Or perhaps we should just let the Darwin selective process take hold and eliminate these room temperature IQ people? Perhaps we can invent a cell phone call blocker at signal lights.
