An Irish firm has released new software, Bully Stop, allowing parents to monitor and block text messaging and both identified and unidentified callers on their children’s phones. The idea behind the software is to stop text bullying and abusive calls which both fall under the guise of cell bullying.
Bully Stop or Another Case of Big Brother Watching…
Is text bullying the elementary school version of sexting? (See Teen Sexting… a whole new way of flirting?) Is this new Irish variation of Big Brother Watching the answer to the teen sexting challenge parents face as well?
The whole subject of text bullying does beg the question, why do elementary school children have cell phones anyway? And what is it teaching our children about standing in their power? Bullying has been around since the beginning of time. It is and has been a fact of childhood life. No child is immune. Parental intervention has never been very effective in my opinion. Children have to learn to deal with bullies in the growing up process. Yes it can be devastating. Yes it can be traumatic. But in the end, the bullying only stops when the child being bullied stands up to the bully or figures out a way to ignore it.
Bully Stop is just another way to invade privacy. Let’s nip this trend in the bud. Don’t you think there is enough monitoring of our privacy? Do you really want more?
